Book Review : Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

WOW! WOW WOW WOW!

I read the reviews before reading this book and I had high expectations from this book. Cruel Beauty lived up to those expectation, down to the last bit.

My reaction after reading this book :

Before this book, I read The One (check my review here)and I was still smarting from how pathetic I found the series to be when I started this book.

Where do I even start talking about this book. I loved everything. Beauty and the beast was probably the first fairy tale I read as a child and hence have quite a liking for it. This was the first book I've read based on that tale and I absolutely adore this book.

Dear book :

Let me give you a biiiiiig hug

Let me talk about Ignifex

First of all,

This character is so fun. He's clever. smart and FUN. I have honestly no other word for him. He kept me smiling and made me enjoy this read more than I thought I would.
__________________________________________________________________________

Nyx

This girl is kickass. She slaps the demon in his face, doesn't shy away from attacking him, and other things that would be spoiler-ish to mention.

I love you Nyx

The thing is, all these authors in their haste to write relate-able characters end up making them so fucking lame. And Nyx was so different from that shit. She's a breath of fresh air in the female lead category of YA Fantasy.

Shade :

Nothing to say. He's an okay of a character. Nothing memorable.

Plot :

Excellent story. Maintains suspense. Makes you want to keep reading, keeps you engaged. 8/10 for the plot.

Review: Gayle Forman's Where She Went (If I Stay #2)

Written from Adam's point of view!!! Hell Yes!!

I read Where She Went immediately after I was done with If I Stay. When I realized this is Adam narrating I was like

When 'If I Stay' ended I was like, 'WHAT? But..?' And when 'Where She Went' began, I was even more like,

Seriously, after the accident, I didn't even assume for a moment that Adam and Mia won't be together. But it is that way.. O.o!
3 Years after the accident :
Adam is dating this celebrity who is 7 years older than him. Mia has gone to Juilliard and everyone there has recognized her as an otherworldly cellist. Both Adam and Mia have got professional success, with Adam having written the songs for his band that turned multi platinum and Mia being the outstanding talent that she is. You can see where the lyrics of Adam's songs were inspired from. *sobs*

Following Adam's narration, I couldn't help but hate Mia. This is so funny, because I loved her in If I stay. Anyways, I didn't like Mia in book 2. How could she dump Adam like that? Like, as if he was just a on-night stand? *Gosh, Mia, y u no more sensitive?,* I thought.

This book deals with emotional problems. Like If I Stay, this book too, is INTENSE!! Adam's pain, his grief, his hurt are all pouring out of the pages. You can actually feel his pain like your own. What Mia has done to him, how she's scarred him by taking herself away from him. How due to his grief, he leaves his band, loses touch with music, begins working. Thanks to Mia's bestie, Kim, Adam gets a reality check. And then he picks his guitar back up. Soon, he has written the most amazing songs ever. He returns to his band, and while that's not easy, they still take him back. Adam's songs gets them quite a few huge awards and thats how he gets famous, his band famous.

But all's not well with him and his band members. Soon, Adam is staying away from them but hasn't quit the band. And then, while our rock-star, emo-core Adam is in New York, he sees this poster of Mia, about her concert and - you guessed it- he decides to go. And then, there they meet. And spend this day together. Their last day together. It is this day that Adam gets his answers, why Mia let him go, why she never tried to contact him all those years after the accident. Adam gets all his answers and realizes it wasn't all Mia's fault.

Where she went is, just like it's prequel, an intense and beautiful read. This story stays with you for a long time after you've turned the last page. So, go and pick up the book, but not before you've read 'If I Stay'

Okay, lastly, a few quotes!!!

You're a total freak. But you're my freak

I get it now.
I have to make good on my promise. To let her go. To really let her go.
To let us both go.

You know, I thought about that a lot these last couple of years," She says in a choked voice. "About who was there for you. Who held your hand while you grieved for all that you'd lost?

But I'd do it again. I know that now. I'd make that promise a thousand times over and lose her a thousand times over to have heard her play last night or to see her in the morning sunlight. Or even without that. Just to know that she's somewhere out there. Alive.

Gayle Forman, I love you for this book and If I Stay!!!

Review : Galye Forman's If I Stay

I don't know what I was thinking while I started to read this book. As in, I did not know what the story would be about. I read a review that this story was like .. plot-less.. So I was hesitant to read this. But in the end, my curiosity got the best of me, and I started to read If I Stay.

After reading this book I was like :

Then after a few seconds I was like :
I thought : No book no! Not like this! You can't end like this!

I actually came by this book due its sequel 'Where she Went'.

I was immediately taken with the beautiful cover and was like, Have to read this! But, when I realized it has a prequel, I came to this book before starting the other one.

If I Stay .. (The title reminds of the books from Soul Screamers series) .. This book is just SO BEAUTIFUL!!
It toys with your emotions, it plays with your heart, and it makes you cry a lot! Seriously, I actually cried while reading this book. Every relation Mia (our lead girl) has is just so touching, so emotional, be it the relation she has with her parents, grandpa, her brother, Kim or Adam, it just moves you to tears. So well written the book is!

I love the flow of this book. I love the story. I love what this read made me think for hours. The book is actually pretty intense, and beautiful. In fact, it is so much so, that it might be a little too intense and beautiful for some readers. Not for me though. This story will stay with me for a long, long time.

“It's okay, he tells me. 'If you want to go. Everyone wants you to stay. I want you to stay more than I've ever wanted anything in my life.....But that's what I want and I could see why it might not be what you want. So I just wanted to tell you that I understand if you go. It's okay if you have to leave us. It's okay if you want to stop fighting."

Mia plays the cello like a boss. She is hugely into music.. Classical music. She's a cute brunette. She loves her family, Kim, her best friend, Adam, her boyfriend. Adam is the lead singer and guitarist of this band called Shooting Star, and things were happening for them.

You can tell that Mia's gonna be a successful cellist when she grows up.

But before that, an accident happens. It takes her family away from her. She's the only one who survives. Her brother, Teddy, doesn't die immediately after the accident, but soon he goes too. Mia's aware of everything that's happening while her body lies on the hospital bed, unconscious. She hears and sees everyone who gives a damn about her. She listens to all they have to stay to her, but not from her body. She's like a ghost or something, hearing them, seeing them, move around but unable to do anything else. And it's here where the story starts.

Mia tells her story in the most amazing way. This book has more story than dialogues, and that is just the way it should be for this book.

All in all, this book is perfect, and you must read this, for most of the readers will enjoy this. (And do look for my review for Where She Went)
